Mobile operator Tigo, sponsors of the highly awaited musical show in Dar es Salaam by popular American rapper 50 Cent, have urged local artists to take advantage of the event to showcase their talents.
50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis James Jackson is expected to stage a rare musical show on May 4, this year, courtesy of Tigo.
And several local artists are also expected to perform alongside the internationally acclaimed rapper, whose dramatic rise to stardom inspires many up and coming musicians the world over.
Tigo marketing manager Kelvin Twissa said the mobile operator would use the expected show to promote local musicians, and also as way of providing a reap-back service to its subscribers.
He said a luck draw would be conducted to pick 200 fans who would receive free tickets to the show that will be held at the Diamond Jubilee hall.
"We will also award 500 more Tigo subscribers as days to the show draw near.
Tigo is very proud to bring 50 Cent to Tanzania. We started by bringing KCI and Jojo and local flavours TMK Wanaume Family and TMK Wanaume Halisi," he said.
50 Cent was born on July 6, 1975 in South Jamaica. He rose to fame with the release of his albums 'Get Rich or Die Tryin' (2003) and 'The Massacre' (2005). Both albums achieved multi-platinum success, selling over twenty-one million records worldwide.
Circumstances forced 50 Cent into drug dealing at the age of 12 during the 1980s. After leaving drug dealing to pursue a rap career, he was shot nine times in 2000.
After releasing his album 'Guess Who's Back?' in 2002, he was discovered by rapper Eminem and signed to Interscope. With the help of Eminem and Dr Dre- who produced his first major commercial successes- he became one of the highest selling rappers in the world.
In 2003, he founded the record label G-Unit Records, which signed successful rappers such as Young Buck, Lloyd Banks, and Tony Yayo.
50 Cent has also pursued an acting career, appearing in the semi-autobiographical film 'Get Rich or Die Tryin' in 2005 and the Iraq War film 'Home of the Brave' in 2006.
He is regarded as one of the richest musicians in the world. |
